Inspection at the destination reveals what went wrong. Inspection at the source prevents it. The difference between the two is measured in returns, markdowns, retailer chargebacks, and shelf availability, and the consumer trust that holds a brand together over time. Catching a defect on the production line still has consequences,  but the goal is to keep the defect from reaching the shelf at all – and the inspection model has to be structured to make that possible.

Test Rite operations Quality Control as a proactive discipline rather than a final inspection. The model is Preventative Production Control: in-market teams  engage across every stage of the manufacturing cycle rather than arriving at  the end of it, and the work is structured to eliminate variances rather than simply catch them.

Pre-production Management

Technical requirements and quality  benchmarks are established and aligned with the factory before production  begins. Most variances that show up later in a run trace back to a  misalignment that was already present on day one. Pre-production management  is where those misalignments are resolved, when correcting them is still a  conversation rather than a remediation.

Inline and DUPRO Inspection

Inspections  are conducted during active production runs (DUPRO – During Production)  rather than only at the end. This allows for immediate intervention and  technical adjustment while the product is still on the line. Variances are  flagged in real time, and production is not allowed to continue until the issue is resolved. The window for fixing a defect a the source is narrow, and  the inspection model is designed to operate inside it rather than alongside it.

Continuous Improvement and Corrective Action Plans

When a variance is identified, it triggers a Corrective Action Plan (CAP). The factory is required to demonstrate not just remediation of the specific issue but the process improvement that prevents the issue from recurring. This feedback loop ensures that quality issues are not merely caught but  systematically eliminated, and the final product delivered to the consumer  meets the engineering standards established during development rather than a  degraded version of them.
